Italy from the Inside

If you land or take off from Milan, pay great attention to this…

August 28, 2018

Fashion in Milan- Italy from the Inside

As you know, Milan is the Italian capital of fashion. But what you probably don’t know is that Milan has two airports: Linate (LIN) which is located 7 km (4 miles) from downtown Milan and Malpensa (MPX) which is located 50 km (31 miles) from the city center. Both airports share the same website that you can visit to get updated information on schedules (orari) and fees (tariffe).

Now, if you plan to either arrive or depart from Milan, pay great attention to the name of the airport written on the ticket. A friend of mine, who used to work in the airport of Malpensa, told me that too many times she saw passengers missing their flight because they thought it was departing from Malpensa (where they arrived) while it was actually departing from Linate.

Cabs and Uber in Italy

Taxi cab in Italy- Italy from the Inside

Italian taxicab

Taxicabs are definitely the easiest solution for short rides, but at the same time, also the most expensive. However, if you’d like to experience high adrenaline levels in your body, then take a cab driven by a real Italian driver and enjoy your ride. I assure you that you will never forget it….

When you reserve a cab by phone (taxi company phone numbers vary from city to city), you will receive the number of the taxi that will pick you up. The taxi number is displayed on the car’s door.

Now it is also possible to reserve a cab via text (SMS). Also in this case phone numbers vary from city to city. Check online to see which companies offer this service.

At the time of this writing Uber is available in the following cities: Rome and Milan.

In Italy, each taxi must have the sign “taxi” displayed on the car, a number (numero) and especially a meter, although taxi drivers are not required to have a badge with their photo. Taxis are usually white or yellow.

Italian hotels: the bathroom

Hotel bathroom in Italy- Italy from the Inside

The bathroom of an Italian hotel

Hotel bathrooms are small and usually contain only a sink, a toilet, and a shower, sometimes (but not often) a bathtub. Showers and bathtubs may have a string attached to the wall to be used in case of emergencies (for example if you fall and need help). If you pull them by mistake (as my son once did) you will trigger an alarm, often very noisy. So, be aware of the strings!
