Italy from the Inside

Farewell

October 13, 2021

After 17 years, it’s time for us to say goodbye (or Arrivederci) to the ItalyFromTheInside.com adventure.

This blog has been the foundation for our eBook about tips and tricks for first time travelers to Italy. We have received numerous positive comments for our posts, videos, podcasts, and overall efforts to share useful insights about our culture.

As we got busier with other professional activities, we have decided to pause this blog indefinitely and make our eBook even more accessible by discounting it to $2.99.

To all our readers, thank you for following us over all these years. We hope you get to visit Italy many times around.

How are the hotel rooms in Italy?

February 4, 2019

Double room- Italy from the Inside

Double room

In Italy double rooms (camere doppie) usually offer two single beds. Most of the time these two beds are connected to create a king-size bed.

If a double room has a double bed, this is a queen size bed (letto matrimoniale). Double rooms are always for two people; you will rarely find two double beds as in most American lodgings unless the hotel is part of an international chain. Often, if the party exceeds two people, an extra bed can be added on request. If only one person wants to occupy a double room, many times the owner will charge a slightly lower price.

A single room is for one person only and has one single bed (letto singolo).

You have landed in Venice, now what?

Venice water taxi- Italy from the Inside

Water taxi outside the Venice airport

Venice- Marco Polo (VCE) is 12 km (7.5 miles) from the city of Venice (Venezia). As you may already know, no cars can enter Venice. This is not because they are prohibited, but because they cannot physically fit in the city. Venice is on the water and is made of bridges and small pedestrian streets (called calli). All cars must be parked directly outside the city, in Piazzale Roma, where there is the main parking lot (parcheggio). This is also the arrival point of all buses and taxicabs.

However, if you need to reach Venice from the airport and would like to experience something really unique, consider these options:

  • The public boat to Saint Mark’s Square (or other Venetian destinations) for €15 per person. You can buy the tickets either inside the airport or on board.
  • The water taxi. If you choose this solution, then budget around €100 (for up to 5 people).

The official website of the Marco Polo airport in Venice gives you information on all means of transportation from the airport to the city.
